Apple Finally Introduces iOS 8

Apple finally raised the curtain on the new iOS 8, OS X and also many other exciting features on June 2, 2014. The iOS has been taken to a whole new level. A lot of new and improved features have been introduced in the iOS8. It is not available for your phone or tablet now but Apple has given an outline of the new iOS 8. The iOS will be available for download later this year.

The iOS 8 is expected to release on September or October (maybe along with the iPhone 6 or iPad 6). But Apple said that app developers can soon get their hands on the beta versions of the iOS 8.     Let me brief you on the new features on the iOS 8 that was unveiled by Apple on June 2.

  1. Continuity
This could be the best feature of all. Continuity is a whole lot of functions designed to make your Mac interact with your iPhone and iPad. You'll need to have iOS 8 and the new Mac OS X Yosemite for this feature to work. With a new feature called “Handoff”, transactions between iPhone and Mac becomes seamless. You will be able to answer a call you get on your iPhone through you Mac using your phone’s connection but your Mac’s mic and speakers. Also you will be able to call a number you see on a web page through your Mac. Even if you don’t have a Mac, the Handoff feature will work if you have an iPhone and an iPad.
  1. Enhanced Spotlight Search
With an enhanced Spotlight search, you not only get search results for what you files or documents you have in your phone. It will give results from the App store and also the names of films and songs from the iTunes store. Even though the search is a little biased towards Apple’s storefronts, it also shows results from Wikipedia as well as Google searches too.
  1. iCloud Drive
Apple’s iCloud gets a major update in the new iOS 8. The new and improve iCloud Drive is more like the Dropbox where you can save documents to the cloud and share it among other devices. Different types of documents can be saved on the iCloud Drive and can be accessed from Mac, iPhones as well as Windows.
  1. Family Sharing
With the new Family Sharing mode you can share purchases with six members of your family, providing they're all bought with the same card. So even if there’s more than one iPhone user in your family you don’t have to buy the same song or movie twice. Also parents can keep a control on what their kids are purchasing too.
  1. Health app and Health Kit
Another surprise is that the iOS 8 includes a Health app and a HealthKit. The HealthKit gets data from all the third-party health apps and fitness trackers and shows the result in the Health app. So now you can get both your health and fitness analysis all in one place.
  1. Enhanced Keyboard
The iOs 8 will feature a new QuickType keyboard which will support predictive text and will also support a string of native language too. And also third party keyboard can also be installed.
  1. Third Party Central
Now the iOS supports third party widgets. Yes, you can final add third part widgets to your Notification Centre. It was about time for Apple to make a move like this. Now you can do almost everything from the Notification Centre.

Touch ID has also been opened up to developers and can be used to unlock your phone as well as third-party apps. You don’t have to worry about anyone getting your fingerprint. For instance if you want to buy something over eBay, the eBay app will just ask Apple if the correct fingerprint has been submitted.

The iOS 8 has highly improved messaging apps and Siri has also advanced to a whole new level. Apple has indeed taken the iOS experience to a different level. The iOS 8 is expected to release during September or October (rumored to release with iPhone 6).
