Best 5 Alternatives to uTorrent on Windows

Best 5 Alternatives to uTorrent on Windows

uTorrent is not as great as it once was. The simple torrent client that we once knew is no more. After BitTorrent Inc. took ownership of uTorrent, crappy advertisements and junkware became the highlights of the client. Yes, it does give good download speed, but along with good speed, it also uses up your internet speed by loading ads and sneaking garbage into your system.

I have tried out a few other BitTorrent clients that give high download speed and these do not put up advertisements or load junk into your system. So, if you are sick of uTorrent and want to try something new, go ahead and try any of the following BitTorrent clients. Oh and they’re completely free too.

The first alternative I tried was Deluge. It is an open source, cross platform BitTorrent client that is very light weight and closely resembles uTorrent(before it started putting up fishy advertisements). No advertisements, No junk and good download speeds as well. It includes first-party plugins like WebUI, Scheduler, Blocklist, etc. Even though I mentioned lightweight, it doesn’t mean that it is short on features. It includes features like BitTorrent encryption, DHT, peer exchange, magnet URLs, UPnP, RSS, bandwidth scheduling, per-torrent speed limits, a web interface, and more. Another amazing feature of this client is that it can run as a daemon or service, allowing you to install Deluge on a headless server and control it from a remote machine.Get it from here

This client is also is similar to utorrent but without advertisements and no junks either. The perfect alternative to utorrent. If you were utorrent users, you will find this torrent client very easy to use. The BitTorrent client includes all the basic features like support for UPnP / NAT-PMP port forwarding, upload and download speed management, and support for proxy servers. It also has advanced controls for for trackers, peers and torrents and also integrated and customizable search on popular torrent search sites (need python 2.x).

Vuze And Vuze leap are two BitTorrent Clients by the same company. Vuze Leap is an ultra-lightweight edition of Vuze and do not show ads. The paid version of Vuze doesn’t show ads either. Vuze Leap was designed for users who just want to download files and do not plugins or access to remote computers and other advanced options. A drawback is that Vizo Leap only works with Windows. But Vizo works with Mac and Linux as well.

Mac and Linux users probably know about Transmission, which is a very good BitTorrent client which is very minimal and basic but quite powerful too. It doesn’t support Windows though. There is an unofficial version of Transmission-QT for Windows which works as well. This alternative can also work as a daemon on another computer and control that computer from a remote system.Get it from here

This is another BitTorrent client that is ad and junk free and gives superb download speeds. but the client is still under develpoment and a few bugs might pop up during use. BitTyrant is a modified version of Azureus 2.5, a popular client. the important thing is that it does not show any ads like utorrent and offers great download speed too. To get more information about this client, you can head on to their official website.

These are the five alternatives that you could try, if you’d like a different scenery other than the usual uTorrent. Either stick with uTorrent along with all the shitty ads and junk or try switching to another client with no ads and less junk. If there’s any client that you think should have made the list, just leave a comment.

  1. Deluge has been crashing on multiple systems that our group uses, and the creator and forum moderator has refused to address the issues. IN addition, he or she has deleted posts to the forum that pertain to this issue, not allowing other users to contribute.

As an alternative, Deluge was a poor choice, and our group has moved to another client.
