A Robot That Can Read Emotions

A Robot That Can Read Emotions

Have you met Pepper? No? I’ll introduce you to Pepper. Pepper is a robot developed by French robotics company, Aldebaran Robotics for Japanese company Softbank Mobile. Pepper is a robot designed to read as well as respond to human emotions.  Now isn’t that something! Many robots have been developed in the past but Pepper is just outstanding. Our technology has advanced so much that we have robots that read human emotions amongst us.

Pepper will be available to the mass on February 2015 at a price of 1,931$. Pepper is 4 ft. high and weighs 28kg only. It doesn’t have legs though. It moves about using roller wheels. It has two hands and a flat panel display for communication. And those wide eyes give it a cute appearance as well. And it can speak 17 different languages!

To build robots that can make you smile- that is what Softbank Mobile aims at. It has many cameras and sensors inside, to collect data and it also can access the internet too. It can tell how our emotions are at the moment and will react accordingly.  The company aims at a future where robots can be appointed at households to do simple tasks and provide companionship as well. That way they can give company to the elderly people when they are alone in the house.

Pepper robots will be put for sale during February 2015 in Japan and is expected to reach the United States via company Sprint by next summer. It’s almost as if a robot from Isaac Asimov’s stories has popped out. Pepper will surely mark the beginning of the robot era.
