Swift is a new, simpler programming language unveiled by Apple for iOS app developers. “We have a new programming language,” Craig Federighi, Apple’s Senior Vice President of Software Engineering said. “The language is called Swift and it totally rules.” Apple has been working on it for four years headed by Chris Lattner.
The Swift code can work alongside Objective-C and C Code in the same application and the company boasted that it is much faster and better than the Objective-C that is typically being used by developers. And this language Swift is completely native to Cocoa and Cocoa Touch. Developers are highly excited about the new programming language.
The Objective-C, which is a very complicated programming language was giving a hard time for iOS application but Swift looks like a good platform to develop in, having Java like features. iOS app developers will be glad to make a switch. They should have made this this move when they released iOS and made it easier for developers and by now the language could have been massively improved.

Craig Federighi also said that “Swift also enables a dynamism and level of interactivity never seen before that we call Playgrounds”. Swift ‘Playground’ will run your code and show a preview of your result as you are typing the code. Swift will make coding clearer and concise than it was with Objective-C. With the introduction of the new high level language, Apple expects more coders to try and develop iOS apps. Many have been giving up making iOs apps due to the complexity of the Objective-C and Swift will be a way around that.
Apple hopes that iOS app developers will be happy with the new programming language and the simpler language will help them to develop anything from small apps to high end 3D games.
