The Surface 2 from Microsoft is a rally good tablet which has a 10.6-inch, full HD screen. It runs on a 1.7GHz quad-core processor, 2GB RAM and has 32 GB storage (16 GB free). The Surface 2 runs on the Windows RT 8.1 operating system along with the Office RT 2013.
Like any tablet, the Surface 2 tries to outsmart laptops and desktops. But unlike most of the other tablets, the surface 2 accomplishes this mission. The changes seen in the Surface 2 are very little from its predecessor. But the tablet is available with 2 types of keyboards namely, the Type Cover 2 and the Touch Cover 2. But these are not sold along with the Surface 2 and need to be bought separately. But using the Surface 2 without either one of the keyboards just won’t give out the complete potential of the tablet. The keyboard can be easily clipped to the bottom of the Surface 2 and along with the help of the improved kick-stand ( better than the previous version’s) it can be set on top of a table and can be used. However using it on the lap can be tricky.
The other important upgrade featured in this tablet is the 5 MP camera at the back and a 3.5MP camera at the front making video conferencing more comfortable. The screen is much wider than the previous version’s. The battery life of the surface 2 is promising. Microsoft gave an estimate of 10 hours on full charge (7-15 days idle life) which is a really big deal when comparing to the previous version. It also packs Wi-Fi (802.11a/b/g/n), Bluetooth 4.0, HD video out port, stereo speakers with Dolby Sound, USB 3.0, headphone jack, Micro-SD card reader. In short, it has a very good design, good screen quality, good performance and battery life.
The Surface 2 is a really good tablet and if you prefer a tablet over a laptop or desktop, you should try it out.
