We all have fantasised over those sci-fi movies, where those heroes gets things done just by asking them to those creepy sounding AI interfaces(No offence JARVIS).However this is turning out to be much less sci-fi with all those smartphones out there .Although it is too early to ask your smartphone to make you coffee ,still you can get many "less complex" (comparatively) things done like knowing the weather, breaking news ,your favourite team's score ,or even to call or message somebody without having to further upset your finger muscles.
Smartphones had these voice control features over many years, but it was taken to the level of personalised digital assistants when Apple announced that their IPhone 4s would be empowered with the new and improved SIRI, back in 2011. My intention as it seems, is not to blabber about trivial things, but to provide my POV in comparing the manufacture loaded S-Voice and its android counterpart google now on the all new galaxy S6.
Samsung has tried to trim down some fat from its touch wiz UI but somehow made up their mind to retain S-voice along with certain other vintage touch wiz applications.
Personally, I hate S-voice for being upset with my girlfriend (whenever I try to call her through the stupid thing it connects either to my Grandpa or to the grocery store).I have never been able to do so using S-voice .Google Now however is far more neutral .It works most of the time or displays 'couldn't catch that' if I am unclear.
Technically both are cloud based ,which means that when you asks them something, the voice recording is sent to a cloud server ,which manipulates it and sends back the instruction .This means that both require an active internet connection to work .One area where Google Now scores a home run is its context awareness, that is, it keeps track of your location and knows what you are talking about .So if I ask about the weather 'here', google now knows about where I am talking about .With s-voice the results have not been very promising ,not because S-voice being context un- aware ,but you'll have to repeat the query twice, maybe a few times more .The speech recognition and speed of access is better for Google now, at same internet speeds.
The wake up command recognition (you can open the applications from a screen by saying a command, much like open-sesame thing) is present for both the applications ,with S-voice having an upper hand with the ability to set custom wake up commands .But you will probably never make it past the setup screen with S-voice trying to train it according to your custom command(good luck if you are going to try).It is going to drain your battery anyway, these wake ups .Google now can be set up for OK google detection from any screen when it is on or plugged in .It also boasts better voice quality and the results also make more sense.
Another advantage of google now is that it is aware of everything in your Gmail inbox.
There are more than 15 operations that S-voice lists, when we ask it what all it can do Google now is able to perform almost all of these operations (flawlessly).
My opinion is that you make it sure that you have included S-voice in those disabled apps list and get accustomed with Google now ,when you finally get your hands on The New SAMSUNG S6.
Really need such article.
