10 Hidden HTC One M8 Tips and Tricks

HTC One M8 is one of the best smartphones released during the year 2014. It completely exploits all the features of the Android OS. The M8 users may know many of the basic functions of the phone but there are many hidden tricks that you still may not know. Here is a list of some of HTC Ones M8’s features and tricks. Try out these tips and get the maximum out of your HTC One M8.

Do Not Disturb Feature

If you want to get a break from all the incoming calls or text messages or other notifications, you can activate the Do Not Disturb feature that is available on the HTC One M8 and stop getting calls, text messages and other notifications. This feature can come in handy when you are in a meeting or when you want to take a long nap and do not wish to be disturbed. The feature can be found in Setting or you can easily turn the feature ON and OFF from the Quick setting menu.

Customize BlinkFeed

BlnikFeed is a feature which gets content from all over the world and bring it to your phone so that you do not have to login to a social media website to get to know what’s happening in and around the globe. The HTC One M8 allows you to change the BlinkFeed themes so that your phone will get an entirely different look. So if you get bored of the default theme you can head to Settings > Personalize > Themes to give a new theme to the phone.

Remove BlinkFeed

Here is a tip for users who are not a fan of the BlinkFeed feature. There is more than one way to remove the BlinkFeed feature. Here is the easy one. In the Home Screen, you just have to tap and hold your finger on a blnk space until a menu pops up. Choose Manage Home Screen Pages. Go to the BlinkFeed page and select the Remove option which can be found on the lower right corner. This is how you remove BlinkFeed feature.

HTC One M8 as a TV Remote

The HTC one M8 also has an infrared blaster just like its previous version. With the help of this infrared blaster you can use your One M8 as a TV remote. Open the HTC TV app from your phone and set up the app by following the instructions. Make sure you have your television turned ON. After the setup is complete you can use your M8 as the TV remote.

LED Notifications

Like seen in most smartphones, the HTC One M8 also has an LED on top which blinks when you have new notifications. Some of you might find this a nuisance. Just head on to Settings > Display & gestures > Notification light, so that you can customize the LED notifications. You can select the items for which you want to get the notifications for.

Save Battery

The HTC One M8 is a very powerful phone. And it has great battery life too. You can extend your battery life for further use by enabling the battery saving feature that the HTC One M8 is equipped with. Head on to Settings > Power, turn on Power Saver which will help you to optimize your phone’s battery life. Enabling the Extreme Power Saving Mode will not allow certain Android features to function and you will have to exit this mode to gain access to them again.

Add Folders to the App Dock

You can add more apps to the dock by putting many apps in one folder and then adding that folder to the dock. You can create a folder in the home screen by dragging and dropping one app on top of the other and then you just have to give a name to the folder. You can add more apps to the folder by dragging and dropping apps on top of the folder. Then you just have to move that folder to the dock and hence you can get access to more apps from the dock.

Enable Kid Mode

If you have little kids who want to use your smartphone, you can turn on the Kid Mode so that the M8 becomes child friendly so that apps like educational apps, games, etc. are visible to the kids. Kid Mode blocks access to the rest of the OS and you don’t have to worry about your messages or other things getting messed up. To enable this mode just hold down the power button and select Kid Mode from the menu that pops up.

Open Camera with the screen OFF

You don’t necessarily have to turn the screen on and select the camera app to use the camera on your M8. Just hold the phone in landscape orientation and hold down the volume button until the camera app is launched.

Secure your HTC One M8

When you first get the phone, the screen lock is not turned on. If you do not want others to simply go through your files and messages, then you should have the screen lock turned on. Go to Settings > Security > Screen lock and from there you can choose whether you want to add a PIN or a password as your screen lock method, so that when you want to use the phone you have to either enter the PIN or the password to have access to the phone.

These are some of the tips and tricks that every HTC One M8 owner should know. If there are other tips and features that you think should have made the list, feel free to drop a comment.
